I made this log cabin table topper eons ago. Found it stuffed away when looking to see if I had any acceptable inner border fabric for Crazy 4 You. The pieced section stops with the darkest red. I have since added borders as illustrated below. This is square, not cross shaped, but I do like the effect of this image!
Mar 22: Looked through my stash to find enough fabric for a backing
Apr 10: I am piecing the back from fabric from my stash. I have never pieced a backing like this before and may still end up with two quilts instead of one. We shall see!! I also have plenty of coordinating fabric to make some nice place mats. A fun project to work on in my spare time of which I have little!!
Apr 11:After much deliberation, I have decided these need to be separate stand alone quilts.
Apr 13: Prepared the backing from fabric on hand (originally intended for this). There is just barely enough for both quilts. Oh yes!
Apr 17: Have the block layout now for the log cabin quilt. And it is quilted!
Jun 04: Finished binding on Log Cabin

    SQUARE OFF IS SOLD

Apr 14: Quilted the 2nd one I am calling Square Off.

Joan Taylor and I are teaming up to make Tony Trivette a UNC Tar Heels quilt. Joan is piecing the top and I will longarm and bind it. This project is a good ole mountain horse trade venture. I need some work done around here that I can't do,  Tony is willing to work for his quilt. Joan and I are trading services. Win, win, win!

Below are the Tar Heels fabrics we have been able to find. Can't wait to see what Joan creates. She may use any or all or these plus some solids.

Dec 30: Joan has her fabrics now to make the top & I have mine for the backing. They have been pre-washed and are ready to sew!
Jan 2: Joan has been sick but says the top will be shipped Monday! I am planning to piece the backing tomorrow that has been lying across the longarm for several days now. By Thursday there should be a quilt needing only the binding. Several evenings later, it will be done. Soon now, Tony!
Jan 5: The quilt top arrived today. Now that I see it, this one is crying out for one of Sandy's custom designs. The curls in the sashing would make a perfect longarm design that makes this classy looking quilt even better! So the three wins may have just become four wins!
Jan 17: Sandy did her design today. I have had a time seaming the backing but it is now done too. This will be quilted with two layers of cotton batting for extra warmth.
Jan 18: Loaded & basted. Hit a snag in Sandy's design so will longarm when that is fixed.
Jan 20: Longarming done! Binding in progress.
Jan 31: Joan sent 2 matching pillow cases for this quilt - a freebie for him.
Feb 01: Binding, and thus the quilt, is finished!

I wanted to make a quilt for Holly Paino, another RedBubble friend, so I kept pushing her until she agree to let me make this one I have been wanting to make for a long time. Maybe now I will find the guts and the time to tackle it! Couldn't be more excited about it!! Do check out Holly's amazing charcoal portraits including her latest, none other than The Smiling Quilter. (Well, it was the latest but time moves on...)  She does her drawings and then gives them to the subject free of charge! Lots of them! She refuses to make them available for purchase though she could easily through RedBubble. So I want to do something just for Holly in the same spirit!

I will be doing the cover quilt from the Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin book. The quilt top pattern is called "Will O' Wisp" (WOW for short) and will be 47" x 54". I purchased this amazing book two years ago and the special ruler needed to make the 60 degree angles. I originally thought I would use some of the gorgeous batiks that have been on my SOON page quite awhile. Both the book and the fabrics were instant favorites. The more I considered these, the more I wasn't so sure!!

Oh dear!! I needed my daughter's help/eye with this one & help I got! Change of plans!! How my daughter can, in 5 minutes or so, say hand me that bolt, and that one, no put that one aside, etc. and come up with this new plan, amazes me. She does it time and again. Took me far longer to cut the yardage than it did her to design the quilt!! I guess that is why she and Kelley own a quilt shop and I mostly longarm. I usually only piece what she suggests. LOL. Like daughter, not like mother.

After playing with the EQ7 software all week, repeatedly crashing the program because my design was too complex and then resorting to a complex cutting and pasting nightmare using a combination of Paint & Excel, I  finally emailed EQ tech support. The next afternoon, I got back a layout they drew with their elaborate drawing tools I don't have. After a brief phone call today (1/13), I learned how to use it for this quilt. I have deleted all the options I had posted leaving on the one I decided to make.
Jan 27-28: Cut out all the chimneys and logs.

Feb 11: Piecing has begun! On the first of the triangles, the seams didn't nest like they need to so I had to rip (ever so gently) some partial seams to remedy that. Done.
Feb 12: On the second set of triangles, I got one set of logs on the wrong side of the chimney triangle. I caught the error as I started the second row of logs, ripped the necessary seams and will sew them correctly tomorrow. The good news is I am confident I will make less goofs as I go along. I know now that I can do this quilt. All I need is time and patience. It is pretty darn kool in every aspect.
Feb 14: Second set of six triangle blocks is done
Feb 17: Third set is eight triangle blocks is done
Feb 20: Fourth set of 22 triangle blocks is done
Feb 21: Fifth set of 12 diamond blocks is done
              We do have a lot of fun bantor....

Mar 01: DONE! The top is in one piece!
Mar 20: Borders are on, Backing is ready
Mar 27: Sandy and I are working on a custom IQ pattern.

Mar 28: Finalized our IQ pattern
Mar 29: Removed & trimmed borders to get rid of waves
Mar 30: Borders re-attached. Loaded. Quilting halted. Slight IQ pattern glitch
Mar 31: Glitch fixed with not just one, but two, IQ pattern options.
Apr 01: QUILTING DAY !!!!!  Had a bit of foolish fun with Holly!
Apr 02: It is officially a QUILT !!
Apr 08: Binding is attached & have started hand binding.
Apr 09: FINISHED!

Bought the Fat Quarters Cut-ups book and 14 fat quarters to make a "Crazy 4 You" quilt. When I started this post, It was already cut out & I had started sewing the blocks.This is just an experiment. I have some beautiful hand painted batiks that would look awesome in this pattern.  For this one, I started with the tree fabric and tried to coordinate with that. I found plenty more of the tree fabric at the shop for backing and whatever. Like I said, just an experiment!
Dec 28: Inner top done. Puzzling over what to use for the inner border.

Jan 01, 2011: Well, this is coming together after all. While I got a few compliments, I went with my gut. I think this works nicely! Definitely different and light spirited. The dark blue kinda anchors this from floating totally away into crazy la la land, but the 2" border sinks the ship, so I used 1". LOL.
Jan 19: Finished adding the borders. Ready for quilting.
Apr 11: Loaded to quilt. (Customers come first & this is the first break I've had!!)
Apr 12: Quilted!
May 23: I know I posted this on RebBubble this date & so I suspect that is when I finished the binding. So much for details!! It is bound & finished.
