I pieced this quilt top for the shop last June 2010. Kelley quilted it using Swirls 2 by Vicki Malaski of DesignsByVicki & it has been on display in the shop ever since. Last weekend Joanne gave it to me to bind & sell. I will use Navy Moda Bella Solid. This quilt design was featured in Quilts and More Magazine Summer 2010. using the same Bali Pop (2.5" strips).

A panel, a yard that coordinates, some solids, some tartans, a couple of Jovial fat quarters and 14 strips 2.5 x 18 AND a willing creative piecer!! Got to be a winner! Love the mystery of what Joan will create with a few fabrics I have on hand.

Dec 17: Expecting the quilt Joan came up with today!!

Making another quilt from the Fat Quarters Cut-up book. It is a Crazy 4 You but with varied cuts so there are two sets of block shapes instead of just one. These quilts are made by stacking 14 fat quarters alternating light and dark fabrics, cutting them into 9" squares and them making 2 off center X cuts through each stack, one from side to side and one from top to bottom. This makes 4 stacks from each square. The top left stack is left as is; on the top right stack the top fabric is moved to the bottom; on the lower right stack move two to the bottom & on the bottom left stack move three. Piece the blocks as they now sit. Rotate and arrange the 56 blocks into in 8 rows of 7 blocks each. I hope these beautiful holiday theme fabrics will be all the more interesting this way! The best part about this quilt is that there are no points to match until the last step of connecting the rows. Fun to make but deciding how to arrange the blocks can take someone like me a long time with lots of trial and error!!Aug 02: Cut fat quarters into four 9" squares

Aug 17: Took the rows apart back down to blocks & rearranged them. I just did not like what I had before.
Aug 22: Been planning the layout for several days. Main top is back together again!
Aug 23: Added inner border. Waiting for black print fabric for outer border.
Aug 25: Border fabric here. Quilt top finished.
Aug 26: IQ pattern will be Sandy's Hex Curves on Point to match the snowflakes.
Sep 19: Prepared the backing.
Nov 04: Quilted.
Nov 15: Bound.
Dec 25: Sold to Joanne

Joan & I have teamed up again--she pieces & I do the rest. I sent Joan the remnants from the WoW quilt I made for Holly & just got back this top! WOW! Remnant is a funny term here for there was more left over than I used in the original quilt. I just happen to have many yards of Moda Bella Solid in Green & it just happens to work with this quilt (so says most of my consultants). No border on this one; just a simple binding.

Oct 22: Still have not had time to quilt this beauty...

Nov 24: Been having thread & tension issues & modifying the density of the pattern.
Started with the King Tut shown below, changed to Yellow and now back to King Tut. The tension is hairline touchy with the top thread going from being too tight on top (pulling up the green backing thread) to being too loose on bottom with all the colors from the variegated thread spotting the back. The Bottom Line yellow thread was worse. I could not get rid of the green specks between stitches on top & have the back nice too. What to do is the challenge. I don't want green on top, I don't want yellow on back & King Tut doesn't work on the back. So I haven't been doing nothing for three days, just can't get it right...yet. And now I have three beautiful quilts waiting for me and one on the way. Hmmmm.
Nov 24: After several more hours of trying to get it just right, I started quilting. I only know that I am doing the very best I can do on this quilt. QUILTED!!!!!
Nov 25: Squared and ready for binding.
Dec 06: Attached binding and started hand binding.
Dec 08: Finished.

Another Joan original design that is just too adorable for words, Joan tells me the girls just love Dora & I can see why. Personally, I love that little monkey with pink shoes!!
July 26: Loaded, programmed & ready to baste. When I changed the thread, the top tension was much too tight. An hour or more later, it was just right but I was to exhausted to baste.
July 27: Basted and start quilting but kept hearing the bobbin rattling. When I attempted to clean the area, the whole bobbin assembly jammed. APQS has already shipped a replacement but meanwhile Dora will have to wait.
July 28: Got the bobbin assembly unjammed and it seems to be fine. Now I just have to get everything back together just so. Got some done but hopefully tomorrow...
July 29: Worked out the timing issues & finally making progress on Dora! 1 section anyway.
August 01: Finished 2nd section now! Or so I thought. Alas Dora dies here!
I was hearing a popping noise I did not like but since the stitches looked good, I pushed on. Near the end of this section, I noticed some pulls in the top fabric. I changed to a smaller needle but much too late. The popping stopped though! The smaller needle sewed perfectly & the quilt finished out nicely.
I had been using size needle recommended to me by an APQS expert, When I rolled the quilt the backing was badly bearded and the fabric had many pulls in it. I am taking out those rows any way and sending the quilt out to Joan anyway so she can practice machine binding is she ever wants to do that, Some little girl can still enjoy this cute quilt even though it is not up to Joan's nor my standards.
August 02: I have repaired this quilt as best I can. It certainly looks a lot better than yesterday but the pulls in the fabric ruin it. Still it will made some little girl a nice quilt.

Today I am pulling another quilt off the Soon page and out of the closet. It is an Irish Chain quilt my daughter gave me compete with backing to finish and sell. I have toyed with designs for it before but never settled on anything. I want to do this as a precursor to the Wrapped in Paisley quilt.

This is going to require creating clipped blocks. Ask and you shall receive! I did not know about this feature but asked the dear woman who sold me my IQ if there was a way to do it. YES! About halfway through quilting this, I realized this it Red Rooster fabric. I bought some of the dark red and green that coordinate with it and used them in my Log Cabin Table Topper. HA! Wish I had more than I do of that red for binding.

July 16: After several days of working out the design & then redoing it this morning using the clipped blocks feature, I am finally quilting. Half way by end of evening.
July 17: Quilting done! Now I need to find some binding.
July 24: Got the binding.
Aug 25: Attached the binding to the front so ready for hand binding to the back.

Nov 16: A friend is giving this to his wife for Christmas!!

This is a joint project by Joan & me. I had a Wrapped in Paisley Moda jelly roll in the closet I never got around to making into a quilt. I sent it to Joan. The top came in today beautifully pieced in 2" squares--something I would never do!! I found some remnants to add borders. I just happen to have some fabric that is ideal for the backing too.
July 13: Added the single border. Ready to longarm. The more I work with this quilt, the better I like it! I am now at the danger point of wanting to keep it for my living room. Alas. Sigh!
